It's difficult for Lee to put a term on, right now. He got the memory of the Kisame fight last night, so he's aware that they are definitely team mates and they work well together. BUT!!! He still remembers the emotions he experienced from the Neji v Hinata stuff. Oddly enough, I don't think he's even particularly angry or anything at Neji. Like he knows Neji was a jerk, but really, mostly what he experiences was this deep desire to not only fight Neji, but prove himself to him! This is kind of at odds with his impression from him at Aather? Because Neji's been nothing but helpful. And he's talked to him pretty much more than anyone else, though a few people are starting to compare. Lee might be blunt, but he isn't stupid, so he has noticed how... cool? Cool. Neji is towards him when they talk.
I think in general, Lee would consider him to be a friend, but he still feels a desire to prove himself, especially to Neji. He's very curious about their past and why he wants to fight him, too.
Having Lee show up in Aather is very, very weird for Neji. He's dealt with a lot of things in Aather by compartmentalizing and repressing things, and Lee muddles a lot of those things up. He has a lot more to do with Neji than any of the other ninjas here, so he really blurs the line between here and home in a way they don't.
Neji is also well aware that he was a pretty big jerk when he was younger, and after Hinata, Lee probably got more abuse than anyone else. Being a teammate and all. And he knows Lee saw him as a rival. So he's really not sure how Lee is going to respond as he gets memories. Or, well, he has an idea. TRAINING TO SURPASS A GENIUS etc etc. He's just... not really sure how to handle that.
On top of that, he's not sure the best way to keep Lee into getting into trouble, either with Personae or with Sasuke, or someone else.
The short answer is that Lee showing up has shaken him up some, and he's pretty unsure how to deal with it. It's exciting. XD
It's kind of hard to say exactly what drew me to him, exactly. He has a lot of qualities I wish I had - especially his ability to work hard? He's so determined and I do admire that, but if I had to pick one thing that really inspired me to play Lee, it might actually be his moments of weakness more than anything. I can really related to some of the frustration that he feels after failing so much and one of the things I really look for in characters when I play them is a thread of similarity. So, for example, I am clearly not a badass ninja or anything, but I do consider myself to be an optimist and Lee is clearly one with how he believes that he can overcome challenges.
One other factor that inspired me? It was actually seeing how fandom usually portrays him. Whenever I see Lee in other RP circles or even in fanfiction, he's usually relegated to comedic relief and given traits that belong to Gai (i.e., every other word is YOUTH), which... really isn't his character at all. So in that sense, I wanted to play Lee and make him a more rounded character. That's part of the reason I chose to play him specifically at Aather, actually. Without his memories, I felt like I'd have more freedom to develop him.
XD I'm glad having Lee around is exciting, though.
Oh, I've got one for Neji! What drew him to date Sakura?
That came about very slowly. It probably started with training with her, and gradually getting to respect her in Aather for various reasons. In a way, her tenacity reminded him of Naruto or Hinata, and it didn't start out even as a FRIENDLY feeling, but respect became respect plus friendship. For quite a while the only thing really missing was some kind of sexual tension, which started to develop when he was having FEELINGS about... various stuff, particularly when he started feeling like he was close to completing his memories and might leave.
Respect + feelings displaced into sexual tension = kissing.
Which eventually became actual dating. XD
Possibly not dynamic and intensely romantic, but it's actually been pretty fun and cute, and it developed pretty naturally, which is always something I like in RP.
Rounding Lee out sounds like a good goal. Specific types of storylines you'd like to see with him?
Ships gonna happen in RP, man. I've really enjoyed the few threads I've seen between them, though!!
As for specific types of storylines, I kind of have a few things in mind for him that I generally want to work towards. I think the biggest thing - and maybe even the reason I favor Aather as a place for him - is that I want him to continue working on becoming a person that's distinctive from Gai? I'm not sure I'm phrasing that right, but he is so dominated by admiration for Gai in canon... not that it's bad? I'm just interested in seeing if I can't get him to feel like he doesn't have to emulate him in everything.
Like, specifically, I want to get him to feel like he doesn't have to spend every waking hour training? Not that I think he'll stop training ever, but if you saw that movie special chapter recently, I would like for him to feel like he could go to the hot spring and then train later? A slight shift of his priorities, I guess.
Which... I think as a function of canon, most of the ninjas only have their teammates as immediate friends and that's something I want to work on for Lee. More close friends that cause that to happen. So lots of friendship oriented storylines that get him to lose himself less in training?
I think the other kind of story arc in general I want to do with him is definitely going to involve his self-worth. He places a lot of value in proving himself and protecting other people and... I am kind of looking forward to the moment when that gets shaken because something goes wrong in a game. Especially with some of his bad memories playing a role.
Other than that, I definitely wouldn't mind playing any number of situations out with him. XD I kind of take the approach right now that I'll just see what happens. I do want him to sub-patron to a Persona eventually. For a while, i was thinking about moving him to onyx, but I think he fits Sterling fairly well. Actually, thinking about? I definitely want him to get involved with the Personae more. Also, find him a team or two that he unofficially favors. I wouldn't mind a romantic storyline eventually beyond unrequited crush, but I'm not actively looking for one.
Any plans for Neji when he gets back all of his memories?
I willll probably contact the mods at some point in the near future about Legacy Hero options. The one problem I have is that canon is on going, and I doubt Neji will get tons more memories, but it's conceivable he'd get a few more either from upcoming chapters, or implied by them. I don't really want to shelve him for three memories, but I'd like to keep him in the game, and I'm not really excited by alternities and such.
Hmmm... in terms of Personae, he's favoring Fell/Unicorn right now. He hasn't had much luck getting Beauty or Mal's attention yet, so he doesn't have much of an opinion on either of them yet. In general, he really likes Mikage, Mau, Allen/Red, Mikado, and Alena so far. There are a few others he's found of but hasn't had a chance to do much with yet, like Sherlock/Mia and Jet. If he had to pick teams he likes so far, he'd probably go with Iolite, Turquoise, and Sapphire, though he's a little more neutral on Iolite because of how things are with Neji and because he's not really sure what to think of Obsidian. Of all the teams, Sapphire is probably the one he likes the most right now but...
...he still hasn't really spent much time with any of them, yet. I think he'll have a more-rounded opinion once he plays a few more games!
If Neji wasn't on Iolite, what other teams could you see him being part of?
It's really hard to say. I think Neji would have had to be on a relatively... not cuddly team. I don't really know the dynamics of every team, so. Hm. Emerald or Carnelian probably would have worked, except they both already had ninjas. Being on another team would have lead him to develop very differently, though.
If Lee weren't a knight, what team would you see him on?
That's actually a hard question for me to answer? I still don't really know much about a lot of the teams, mostly because I'm completely new to Aather. I originally decided to make him a knight because he has the potential towards individual action, while being positive and maintaining a desire to help/do good. He could definitely do well on one. I think he'd do best on one that has positive members/a cheery disposition. I'll have to think about this later when I know more about the teams.
What kind of games does Neji like the most/the least?
Playing with Jasper was interesting! Lee... isn't really sure he has much of an opinion, but both Saya and Pitch seemed to be really pleasant people! He places a lot of importance on how people interact and how polite they were, so in general, that impressed him. He... probably like bbshoggoth the most, actually. On the other hand, Erika has him a little unsure. Her attitude didn't get him to flinch or anything yet, but abrasive people aren't high up on his list of people he likes. Jasper is alright, though, and he wouldn't mind playing with them in the future!
Lee didn't even blink at Saya in her shoggoth-y form so she likes him already! He's also very exuberant and played well with Jasper, and also seemed to fit right in with her and Pitch. (Erika is always abrasive forever, we can agree on that.) Though he didn't spend much time with Jasper, Saya likes him a whole lot! HE IS EXUBERANT AND NOT A JERK, BOTH ARE GOOD QUALITIES.
Why did you app Lee as a knight? :o OH, you answered that question already. Um...What sort of quests does Lee tend to give out and why?
AH I was going to answer, but okay!!! Right now, Lee's given out two quests: one to do some hunting and then the other doesn't have details yet. Generally speaking, he'll favor quests that have beneficial effects for people. He'd rather make someone do something that will help the overall situation than not. I think in the future? He is probably going to give out quests to people that know how to fight to help educate some of the... less warrior-type people in self-defense. And that includes giving people quests like... doing a hundred laps around the ring, or something. So he'll probably be a haven for those that are trying to avoid really social ones!
How hard is it for Saya, being a lovecraft-style abomination and all, at Aather?
They've only briefly met, but very positive! Lee's taken a shine to her. Obviously, he doesn't know much about her yet, but she seems to be a nice, good person and that always flies with him. He's actively looking to get to know her better!
HMMMMMMMMMMMMM... I think I'm really looking forward to Lee remembering what he can do. Soooooo either his memories of mastering the two Lotus techniques or parts of the Gaara fight! His hospitalization memories will be fun as well!!
Lee thinks he's very, very cool! They've met a few times and he seems really, really friendly - plus, he really saved his ass on the ship. As far as people go, Ven's up there on his list of favorite people that he's met since coming to Aather. Honestly, he is kind of looking forward to the day he gets to play a game on the same time as Ven. He also gets a lot of bonus points for suggesting a sparring partner for him!
I think Tiger gets the rather prestigious honor of being tied for the position of Lee's favorite knight that he's met so far, along with Arya and Mikage. He likes a lot of the knights, but Tiger kind of has this very helpful vibe going on? This contrasts with most of the other knights who... have had very short threads with him. We'll see how it progresses, but I can definitely see Lee eventually looking up to him as the sort of person he wouldn't mind growing in to? A role-model, if you will.
Erika's situation is far more tenuous, simply because Lee may not always react to biting statements or snark, but he does see it when it happens. He doesn't exactly believe in holding grudges, but it does place her further down the list of people he'd like to interact with. On the plus side, he still likes Jasper as a whole. Basically, if Lee had a list of people he didn't like, Erika would probably be pretty close to getting on it.
Tiger likes Lee! He seems very enthusiastic about being a knight and helping people, and it makes him happy to be able to encourage and help the newer knights in stuff like that. It's closer to what he remembers doing!
Erika thinks Lee is a useless idiot, but that is basically her default thoughts on people so that doesn't say much. It is even a little worse than standard with him, though, because he just pushed through trying to be cheerful in the game rather than seeing the truth that he was unwanted and unhelpful! Also he didn't think he really understood how Jasper worked at all, which is to be expected but wasn't winning him any points.
How do you think Lee will react to Neji/Sakura when he remembers enough? XD
XD Rather well, I think. Lee's crush on Sakura, in canon, doesn't ever really seem that big, to me. He declares that he wants to go out with her and that he'll protect her in the first few Chuunin Exams and then by the time of the preliminary matches, he is kind of done fawning over her. Similarly, he seems to understand that it won't be a thing by the time he gets out of the hospital and it never really comes up after that in the manga, which is my major source for his characterization. So, in conclusion, Lee has a small crush but it never really goes anywhere, which I guess is a function of the fact that he consistently has other priorities in his life and he understands that she isn't really interested. In Aather, he is rather fond of her so far, but that's about it. I guess I could've made him crush on her again, but I didn't see much of a reason to play that out.
The major hiccup here will be Neji, though. Lee's relationship with him is probably going to be in flux for a while as he gathers up the pieces of his past. Ultimately, though, I think he'll just be glad for them, because Neji's a decent person and if he and Sakura are happy together, well that's great!
Are there any other characters you want to app to Aather?
Well, I have three, so I can't app any more right now! (Raven/Erika/Tiger) Which is fine, since three is definitely my limit, and I don't really have anyone else I want to app at the moment. It's actually pretty impressive that I have three characters I super want to play right now, usually I don't get app urges that often. And I got Erika and Tiger in super close together (three weeks apart or so), so they're both still settling in.
I do have a second character in mind, though: Jon Snow, from a Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones. Obviously, I can't app him until September, when hero apps open again, but I am looking forward to playing him, hopefully. When I decided to app here, I was flip-flopping between the two of them, but I knew I wanted to start with a knight and Lee was just the better fit as a Knight. I was actually unsure if I could handle a second character, at first, due to the pacing of Aather (I've never played at a game this fast before!), but hitting 1K comments this quick has showed me than I can probably manage to handle another one!
That is a good question! He's acquainted with a lot of people but not super close to anyone, really. The people he has the most personal relationships with at the moment are probably Sasuke (though Sasuke would not agree) and Serah (though it's still early days there).
I've only sporatically been in the LJ/DWRP scene. Briefly, I played at dramadramaduck, island, and paradisa back circa 2007-2008, before I had to take a few years off due to various RL circumstances. I do memes and the like on occasion, but I apped here because one of my friends plays here (Arya-mun). Most of my RP experience has actually been in forums and the like, in terms of RP. Playing her has been a fun experience, so far! It actually reminds me more of a blend between tabletop rp and dwrp than most games.
What are your goals for your newer characters while they're at Aather?
Jaina... I think more than anything, Lee is glad that Neji has someone like Jaina around on his team. He still doesn't know as much as he'd like to about Neji as he'd like to, and Jaina is kind of a... new factor. But she seems very cool and very level-headed and just like the kind of role-model he would love to have on a team. In general, she impresses the hell out of him. I think one of the reasons he thinks so positively of her is because she purposefully asked him for the first quest he gave out? Because it took him a few moments to figure out what all he needed to do and just... she was very patient and helpful! It really impressed him, I guess, even though it wasn't that big of a deal. But small things make a big impression and, so far, she's been pretty friendly with him, which earns her major points! Which sort of translates in to wow I'm glad Neji has someone like that watching his back!!
He's energetic! She actually really likes that liveliness and determination. Especially as she's learning about him and his training, it's like meeting Bizarro Tenel Ka. She's...kind of treating him like she would a rookie pilot, but she's trying not to be offensive about it. Just want to get him up to speed! o/
She's vaguely amused at his application of the term ninja to various professions, especially ninja ambassador. D-diplomacy by assassination?
I do! I am counting down the days until the next app cycle, but I'm planning to app Jon Snow, from A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones. He's fairly different from Lee, actually, and I think he'll fit fairly well in with the game. Described as being sullen and intense. Fairly quiet and introverted, in general. The nice part is that because he's a book character, he'll have a ton of memories and skills in his various registries.
I don't really have a third character in mind, but then I'm not sure I could handle one. One day, I might consider apping a Personae, as well, but that's months out, easily.
Hmmm. What teams does Jaina like, other than Iolite? Any teams she feels irritated towards?
If Lee got to design a game, it would either be something fun and light-hearted or really intense. Either way, it would be pretty straightforward. He values guts and hard-work the most, so those are the qualities he'd be looking for in terms of what would win the game. I kind of imagine it might be something like... suddenly, the teams find themselves midway up a cliff and there's a safe, easy path that winds down and then a second, more dangerous path going up the cliff. WINNERS CLIMB THE CLIFF, LOSERS TAKE THE EASY WAY DOWN D: or something of that nature.
There would be zero risk of death, though, because he hates that.
If Jaina ever fills up her registry, what option does she choose? And why!
There's a point at which she probably would have tried to go to chill with Malcolm Reynolds and Inara Serra. For a while, her strongest emotion ties was to them, and with a complete registry she'd have that logical stopping point of having defeated her brother. It's noteworthy that at the end of Legacy of the Force, even while they're setting up the next storyarc by (not so subtly) hinting there's going to be big problems with Daala and the Mandalorians...Jaina's at that time sitting there in a mental place where she's going "Okay, it's done. I've fulfilled the prophecy I've been worrying about since I was a teenager. The Sword of the Jedi has saved the galaxy." She could say she's done her duty, lived up to everything that was piled on to her, and go chill on Joss Whedon's version of the Millenium Falcon having excellent adventures.
Then she started developing in a different direction. |D
Right now, she'd probably choose to stay and help in another fashion -- going off to work in another realm. A lot of what Jaina's doing right now is identifying by her idea of what it means to be a Jedi, and with Jaina Solo that means ALWAYS WORKING. Even if she doesn't like the Personae, her view of the situation is the world is in trouble and it is definitely important to save it from the darkness, so sure, this is the battlefield of the day for the Sword of the Jedi and she'll stay on the front lines as long as necessary.
Aspects of Lee's character you're most interested in exploring?
I think I'm most interested in exploring how he'll cope and change when things become really bad. Like a lot of people, Lee has a limit as to how optimistic he can be and when things get bad enough, it's going to affect him. In canon, he's broken down twice due to circumstances - both times because he thought he'd never be able to accomplish his goals. In both instances, he had Gai there to comfort him and tell him it will all be okay. But he won't have him here and very few people can match Lee's energy level and his optimism, which means that he probably won't find the same kind of comfort here. So I want to see how he copes and how he changes, because that really interests me. And also who he comes to admire in the moments after.
In addition, I'm generally interested in exploring... hmmmm... I want to explore his character outside of his constant desire to be stronger and train constantly. It's a difficult task, though, because he's so impossibly shounen and he's constantly training in canon. One day, though, one day...!!
If Jaina could chose, are there any memories she would want back right this moment? Any ones she would never, ever want back?
